Ethan was so truly special. He was so brave and such a fighter. Ethan lived every day with a zest for life that most people could never imagine. His courageous fight with leukemia was never easy, but Ethan never let it get him down. Ethan left a lasting impression of everybody he met, and will be loved and missed always. My cousin is my hero.
In our home state of South Dakota, there is an annual free summer camp for children with cancer called Camp Bring It On. Ethan came up with that name. He came up with the name because, as he put it, he is "stronger and can do anything."
Our family misses Ethan more and more each day. He was especially close to my mom, and they did so many things for each other.
He is survived by his mom, Jamie; stepdad, Mark; little sister Haylee; and stepbrother Zach, in addition to many other relatives, loved ones, and friends.

I'm sorry I couldn't stop by here on your angel day, but that wasn't because I haven't been thinking of you. On the contrary, I've thought about you a lot lately. It's been a really rough week, but I know I have you to watch over me and let me know everything will be okay. You remind me not to think of my bad days and dwell on them, because things could always be worse. There is always something or someone to live for and I'm thankful for that. Thank you Ethan, for helping me to remember that. I love you and miss you!

to keep watch over you
to guard and then protect you
in everything you do
when i whispered to the father
i asked for him to bring
a touch of love and goodness
sent forth on angel wings
i asked for them to whisper
peace and joy into your ear
that songs of love and happiness
would be that all you would hear
but then i asked the father
to shine upon your face
